The monarchy style of leadership in the United Kingdom will make many people have the idea that it’s their only culture. But it is not the only thing that can define the british culture. The United Kingdom comprises of four countries that are England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and wales and they all have unique cultures.
The religion and beliefs in the United Kingdom is all inclusive. There is the Christians who are the dominant religion and other religions such as Islam,Hinduism, Judaism and also Buddhism are given the freedom of worship in the United Kingdom.
The family is considered to play a very important role to the society. British families in past decades were considered to be comprised of a father,mother, and children but that is slowly changing and single parents are now accepted. Marriage is another thing that has seen changes like same-sex marriage is now accepted in the society as opposed to times before where it was regarded as a sin. It’s the role of the younger family members to take care of their aged relatives in the british culture.
Social stratification is very common in the United Kingdom. The class system is deeply rooted with the upper class as the highest rank and consists of the opulent and very wealthy individuals with robust wealth and hereditary ties. Next in the social strata is the middle class that is commonly referred to as the working class. Middle class are often those in white color jobs and they live in private posh suburbs and they have access to education.
The gender roles in the United Kingdom have changed as in past decades most roles were male-dominated. This has seen more women getting involved in roles that were regarded as male roles. This has helped to achieve equality when it comes to job distribution and many other things.
When it comes to arts in the United Kingdom its very vast and this has been characterized by the multiple theatres and cinema places across the countries. Young talent is greatly supported to help them realize their full potential in the entertainment industry and give them a platform for worldwide recognition.
Their communication style is known to be direct to the point but also express modesty. But the old business people and those in the upper class still prefer the formal mode of communication following the given protocols. Written communication in the United Kingdom follows strict rules of protocol. Its important to close a letter in the right format but this will also depend on your relationship with the recipient.
In the United Kingdom it is a norm to carry a gift if you are invited for a dinner or any other kind of party. These can be in form of a bottle of wine, flowers or some chocolates. Some individuals usually send the gift in advance which is also accepted.
